project overview
Hope Not HandcuffsHope Not Handcuffs, Hudson Valley reached out to Niki Jones Agency to create a series of educational training videos for law enforcement officers about the concept of “deflection.” Deflection is a community policing strategy that diverts indiviuals away from the criminal justice system and into treatment or support services, particularly for those who live with substance use and mental health issues. In addition to training videos, Hope Not Handcuffs, Hudson Valley needed a custom website portal to register and provide a three-part training certification pathway for Law Enforcement Officers, as well as additional information for the general public.
Brief of
Design Journey
Hope Not Handcuffs, Hudson Valley’s design aesthetic draws on the brand colors of their national parent organization (Face Addiction Now) and purple, the color of recovery, with an emphasis on authentic photos of law enforcement, Angels and volunteers serving with the organization’s local chapter. The animated training videos follow suit, creating simple, memorable modules to facilitate recall and implementation among officers. We integrated live action interviews with law enforcement officers, Hope Not Handcuffs’ leadership, and individuals with lived experiences of recovery to shape the training and show that it is an evidence-based practices rooted in the real, daily work of effective community policing.
