Dingmans Ferry, PA: The long, lazy days of summer are fast approaching and the staff at the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) are preparing for PEEC’s popular Summer Day and Residential Camp.
Summer Day Camp begins at PEEC on July 3 & continues through August 25, 2017, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday. Campers who are ages 5 years old to 11th grade will have up to 8 weeks to explore, play, and learn about the natural world in which they live. Parents can choose individual weeks or register their children for the entire summer with the assurance that PEEC staff members are qualified instructors with cleared background checks and child safety training.
Every week features a new theme. From “Creek Week” explorations for tadpoles and diving beetles to investigating a Water World, PEEC offers two water-themed weeks for kids who like to get wet. Do you know a camper who loves animals? Let them experience “Nature Gone Wild”, where kids can truly roam free, or maybe “Superpowers”, where they can learn the amazing abilities of native creatures.
Prefer traditional camp favorites? “Camper’s Choice” is centered on campers taking the lead in planning their favorite activities, or come to PEEC’s “Messy Mayhem” and get downright dirty all week. We know “PEEC Rocks!” That’s why we’re even having a week celebrating all things geology, including our bat cave and fossils hunts.
Younger campers will be Polliwogs (5 years to 2nd grade) or Wet & Slimies (3rd to 4th grade). Junior Naturalists (5th to 7th grade) can enjoy Thursday late-nights with a campfire dinner and Senior Naturalists (8th to 11th grade) will have the option to stay overnight Thursday to Friday. All campers will enjoy Wednesday afternoon swimming at Lake Akenac.
Residential Camp will have 3 weeks of activities. Senior Naturalists will go on a “River Expedition” and “Appalachian Trail Expedition” while Junior Naturalists will have “Outdoor Adventures.” These weeks are all inclusive with meals, lodging, and programming for $750.
PEEC also has a Volunteer Counselor Program for teens ages 15 & up. Volunteer Counselors will learn the expectations of a real job while guiding children & changing lives. Please see the PEEC website for details or call 570-828-2319.
